How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Rotating tires

Wondering when to rotate tires on your Toyota vehicle? The service specialists at Peter Boulware Toyota recommend rotating your tires every 5,000 – 8,000 miles, however, this exact figure can vary. The best answer for how many miles to rotate tires will lie within your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

If you still have questions about when to rotate tires on your specific model, don’t worry! Just continue reading to find out proper tire rotation intervals with the experts at our Tallahassee auto center.

When to Rotate Tires on FWD and RWD Vehicles?

Not sure what FWD or RWD means? FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) and RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) are simply abbreviations for the drivetrain. The drivetrain is what’s responsible for directing engine power to the tires. For a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, the power is sent to the rear tires. For a front-wheel-drive vehicle, the power is sent to the front tires. Whichever set of tires is getting the majority of the engine power is bound to wear down faster than the set that’s receiving less. Keep the following instructions in mind when it’s time to rotate tires on your FWD or RWD Toyota:

  • For FWD or RWD cars, tire rotation needs to be performed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Be sure to consult your owner’s manual for exact figures.
  • If you’re performing an FWD tire rotation yourself, keep in mind to flip sides when moving the rear tires. For example, the rear right tire will go on the front left. However, when moving the front tires to the back, keep them on the same side.
  • When rotating tires on an RWD car, invert the process above. Flip sides when moving the front tires to the back, but keep the rear tires on the same side when moving them forward.
  • Keep in mind that your driving conditions and local climate affect how often you need to rotate your tires. Talk with the service experts at Peter Boulware Toyota to get a better idea of a maintenance schedule that fits your driving habits.

When to Rotate Tires on AWD Vehicles?

Not sure how often you should rotate your tires on an AWD Toyota? First and foremost, your vehicle will require a different tire rotation than an RWD or FWD vehicle. The drivetrain will be sending power to all of your wheels simultaneously, rather than to a specific set. So you’ll need to rotate your tires specifically and more frequently.

Our certified technicians encourage you to get your AWD tires rotated every 3,000 – 5,000 miles, however, your owner’s manual should always be your go-to guide. Just keep the following steps in mind when rotating tires at your Crawfordville home:

  1. The left rear goes to the right front spot.
  2. The right rear goes to the left front spot.
  3. The right front goes to the left rear spot.
  4. The left front goes to the right rear spot.
