2018 Toyota Corolla vs 2018 Honda Civic

Serving Tallahassee, Panama City, and Marianna, FL

Midsize cars fill a lot needs – they are often fun to drive, reasonably priced, and offer a good balance of cost and space. Two longtime rivals in the midsize market are the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, which have been competing with each other for decades. The 2018 Corolla and 2018 Civic share many features, including high resale value, excellent build quality and superior reliability. A test drive of both will convince you that the Corolla is a better value for your money.

Dimensions

Corolla and Civic have the same wheelbase, but the Corolla is 0.3 inches longer. The Corolla is also lighter, taller, has a larger fuel capacity and a tighter turning diameter. The most pronounced size differences are found in the cabins. The Corolla has more rear legroom, more headroom front and rear, and equal front legroom. The Corolla also gives you more passenger space, 97.1 vs 95.0 cubic feet.

Safety Features

Corolla and Civic come with a similar complement of airbags, but if you want a driver’s knee airbag, only the Corolla will suffice. The 2018 Corolla is standardly equipped with Toyota Safety Sense-P, which includes pre-collision warning, lane-departure alert with steering assist, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control. Civic offers a package, Honda Sensing, with similar features, but with one big difference: The Honda package is a $1,000 option.

Ground Clearance

Off-roading is not the strong suit of either car, but nonetheless adequate ground clearance is a must. If you drive over bumps in a car lacking sufficient clearance, it’s likely it will scrape and bottom out. Happily, the Corolla has a generous 6.7 inches of ground clearance, whereas the Civic must make do with 5.2 inches.
