What’s New for the 2018 Toyota RAV4?
The big news for the RAV4 is its newest trim level. The 2018 RAV4 Adventure sits tall and looks more athletic than its street-riding siblings. With higher ground clearance, drivers can handle a gravel road or dirt road without fearing debris. When you add four-wheel drive, you have a good combination for your weekend camping trips. Black alloy wheels and large plastic fender flares mark the exterior. Roof rails add utility. Inside the sill plates and special trim panels change the look. All-weather floor mats are a practical addition. Toyota is also continuing its popular Platinum trim which was added as a 2017 model. With SofTex covering the seats, it looks richer and more refined. Sitting in the driver’s power chair, you have a SurroundView camera to reveal any obstacles, people or pets that are too close for safety. Integrated navigation is added to the standard Entune system. A larger touchscreen makes it easy to use turn-by-turn directions and other functions. An 11-speaker JBL system surrounds the driver and passengers. HD Radio and Entune apps provide plenty of music choices. The driver will also appreciate the heated steering wheel. Platinum editions also have a hands-free power liftgate, which is surprising in the RAV4 crossover segment.
The RAV4 has been making headlines as the first in its class to have a standard autobrake. Every 2018 RAV4 shopper will drive home with a forward collision warning to help avoid trouble. The warning can trigger automatic braking if the system senses an emergency situation. The pedestrian feature watches for someone walking into the car’s path and will brake to stop from hitting the person. Then there’s the adaptive cruise control that regulates travel, leaving the driver to steer. Another first, the lane watch system is standard, too. It has an assist function that can automatically tug to pull the car back into the right trajectory. Self-regulating high beams are another standard and another first. The package would cost thousands extra on rivals, and this makes it a favorite with consumers. Limited editions also have a blind spot monitor. Another way the RAV4 is changing the crossover market is by offering class-leading cargo room. If you’ve got a busy life, you need as much space as you can get, and Toyota gives it to you. The seats fold nearly flat, and the lift-over height is low to help you get luggage in and out.
