There seems to be a few reasons people drive a truck, rather anything else. It tends to be a billboard for hard-working, fun-loving and All-American clean living. Driving a truck seems to be a lifestyle choice. Here, we’re going to look at the cost/value, performance and awards of both vehicles so that you can make your own choice.
Cost and Value
With a MSRP of $46,595*, the Tundra comes in at a healthy $1,670 less expensive than the $48,265 MSRP of the F-150. Both prices are just above the average price for each vehicle. The average price paid for the Tundra is $42,979, but the F-150 owners pay an average price of $44,595. That’s a difference of over $1,600! The fuel tank of the Tundra has a whopping 26.4 gallon capacity. The only reason it would cost more to fill up is that the tank of the F-150 holds only 23 gallons. Roadside Assistance for the Tundra is a 2 year warranty, compared to the 5 years of the F-150. However, the F-150 only has a 60,000 mile warranty, whereas the Tundra has an unlimited mileage warranty in comparison.
Performance
If you are buying your truck to be a work animal, let me point out that the length of the Tundra is 228.9 inches, but the F-150 shows up at 209.3 inches. That slightly larger capacity allows you to get more done on any job. Of course, the v8 engine helps, too. The F-150 can only boast a v6. If you choose the Tundra as your work animal, you’ll get 1,300 pounds more towing capacity than the 7,600 pound capacity of the F-150. Yes, the Tundra has an 8,900 pound towing capacity. While both vehicles have lane assistance and pre-collision/crash prevention technology, only the Tundra has Vehicle Stability Control. This enables the pulling and towing power to be distributed to the wheels that are on solid ground. While the F-150 has a lighter aluminum bed, which helps with the overall weight of the vehicle, it is also considered the most expensive to repair. One cool feature on the Tundra, in my opinion, is the automatic high beams. A windshield camera can detect the bright high beams of oncoming vehicles, and actually flashes the others to let them know to lower their beams
Specs and Features
The 2018 Tundra 4×4 CrewMax Limited has the horsepower of 381 @ 5600 rpm while the Ford F-150 Supercrew 4×4 Lariat 145-in. WB gets 325 @ 5000 rpm. The same Tundra includes the navigational system and auxilary input jack as a standard, while it is only an optional feature on the F-150. Again, while comparing the same trucks and trims, the Tundra comes out on top again with the maximum towing capacity of 8,900 lbs. and the F-150 has a maximum of 5,000 lbs. The Tundra also won the IntelliChoice Best Overall Value Award.**
Although there are fans of both vehicles, most of those surveyed claim that the F-150 has a rougher ride than the Tundra. Also, consumers like the more “sporty” style, curves and angles of the Tundra, as compared to the more square, boxy shape of the F-150. Now, you’ve seen what others have to say. Why not come into our Toyota dealership and check it all out for yourself.
