Toyota Highlander Engine Specs & Towing Power

Performance of the 2021 Toyota Highlander

As with many vehicles that now reside in the Toyota model lineup, the 2021 Toyota Highlander gives you the choice to go for a hybrid powertrain. Even while emphasizing efficiency with this hybrid arrangement, your SUV won’t be lacking in power.

The hybrid 2.5L engine produces 186 horsepower, 175 lb-ft of torque, and reaches an EPA-estimated 36 city MPG/35 highway MPG.1

The 3.5L V6 engine offers plenty of power, too. It generates 295 horsepower, 263 lb-ft of torque, and will be able to tow as much as 5,000 pounds. With assistance from Trailer-Sway Control, towing trailers will always be a smooth, reassuring process!

Toyota Highlander Interior Space

Space and Safety

Along with having a roomy cabin, the 2021 Highlander ensures each member residing within the vehicle is well protected. Let’s take a closer look at all the available room first, though.

The model has three rows, the ability to seat up to eight passengers, and a maximum passenger volume of 141.3 cubic feet. Cargo space can be measured in three ways:

  • 16 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row
  • 48.4 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row
  • 84.3 cubic feet of cargo behind the first row

The legroom is a strength, too, measuring 42 inches up front, 41 inches in the second row, and 27.7 inches in the third row.

In terms of safety, you can rely upon the many technologies within the standard Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5+ suite to keep you and your passengers protected. Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection helps you avoid accidents; Lane Departure Alert helps you stay in your respective lane, and Automatic High Beams improve visibility without you having to lift a finger. The suite includes many other features, too!
